The True Meaning of Christmas {#MerrySMChristmas to you!}

Christmas days before motherhood were filled with parties, reunions and work to attend to (like in 2006 when I had to spend Christmas Eve in the office to take calls!). Can’t complain. Those were among the most fun Christmas days of my life; not to mention the Christmas days I've had as a kid (Those were extremely fun and happy, too!). Christmas then was no more than a celebration to me: receiving gifts, attending Christmas parties, eating a lot (and getting fat!), etc. I know that by admitting this I risk appearing shallow, but it’s true. I thank God for all the Christmas days I've had in my life, but really I was too preoccupied on most of those days to even remember it is truly His birthday we celebrate. I guess this is what Christmas had become for most young adults these days. Sad but true.

Things changed when I became a mother. My perspective on many things changed including my view of Christmas. Christmas became all about my kid and family. Suddenly, Christmas is meaningful. I found the true meaning of Christmas.

Relaxed Wahmmy's Christmas Checklist 2014

I found myself spending time planning out my Christmas days for someone else: what food my daughter would love to eat on Christmas Eve, what to get her for Christmas and how to make Christmas special for her. I now have someone to prepare it for and spend it with. Someone I love so much I want her to grow up looking forward to and looking back at Christmas with a smile. And now that my baby is already a little lady; I found myself explaining what Christmas is. What used to be a forgotten truth is now each year’s trivia for her. “We celebrate Christmas because it is God’s birthday”, this is what I always tell her with certainty. As I tell her this; I’m also reminded of for whom Christmas really is— for Jesus. And while we, as a family, discover this truth about Christmas each year; we also made Christmas a celebration of life. We always make sure we have lots of fun at this time of the year. It’s the season to be jolly!

I made hanging of Christmas stockings our common childhood Christmas experience. I want her to grow up looking forward to and looking back at Christmas with a smile.

It's the season to be jolly!

This year’s Christmas is by far the most interesting and fun though. We started celebrating early. Thank you to #MerrySMChristmas and The Cardinal Academy; Isha and her classmates were part of SM Marilao’s Grand Christmas Launch. It’s such a festive and fun event . We’re lucky to be part of it. A part of SM Marilao’s #MerrySMChristmas was even featured in AHA!’s December 7 episode! My little lady got a close up shot (I’m such a proud Mommy!)!

Apparently, this is not the first time we've had a #MerrySMChristmas. It has also been a yearly thing for us as a family. We always go to SM on Christmas Day! And where else do we buy our Christmas presents where they can be gift-wrapped free of charge? SM, of course!

The true meaning of Christmas, as I have experienced, will come to each of us eventually. No forcing needed. You will just feel it.  It just takes the right inspiration and motivation. It’s easy for mothers like me to find that inspiration. Not so easy for others, I believe. For young adults, SM Cares’ Bears of Joy may spark something deep down your heart. Fellow moms can also buy these lovely bears to spread Christmas cheer outside home (Imagine if you can't afford to buy your kid one; you'll be thankful to anyone who will buy it for him/her). That’s it. Well, not really. I’ll leave you with Cheska and Kendra Kramer’s cutesy video to watch. Oh, mothers like me love videos like this. My little lady is as lovely as Cheska’s Kendra!

Recipe: Sinigang Na Buto-Buto ng Baka

A few days ago, we went to SM Marilao Hypermarket to buy chicken and cook Tinolang Manok. Everything had been planned for lunch, but when we saw the lot of Buto-Buto ng Baka on sale; we decided to give it a try and cook Sinigang  na Baka.  Sinigang is a favorite in our family (in many Filipino families, actually). My Nanay cooks the best Sinigang na Baboy and Baka. For Sinigang na Baka; she buys from her suki in Meycauayan Market, where she only pays for the beef strips and gets its fat free of charge. Her Sinigang is tasty and sinfully delicious; we're like in Tokyo Tokyo whenever it is our ulam (Unli rice!) My Sinigang na Buto-Buto ng Baka is no match compared to her's, but it turned out very good, too. Buto-Buto is flavorful and is perfect match to my Sinigang's thick sour soup. I'm proud to have cooked it a couple times and to have succeeded each time (which is not always the case, believe me!). Below are the ingredients and recipe for Sinigang na Buto-Bu

OPPO F1s: Valentine’s Dream Date

Before I talk about my Valentine's Dream Date, I'd love to first give you a bit background about who I am and what I do. Who I am can easily be summed up in 4 letters: W-A-H-M. I am a Work-At-Home-Mom doing various freelance writing, admin, social media and design work for clients abroad. I have been in the business for many years. Haven't looked back to my also fun call center life since. I have no regrets about choosing to be home all the time. After all, I am an introvert. I don't really enjoy being in a crowd. They can be overwhelming to me. I also have a 7 year old daughter, and I'm just really thankful I am present in her life and I get to watch her grow up into a happy, beautiful girl each day. I understand this is a privilege not many moms get to enjoy. I love my WAHM  life! I'm going to say this over and over again— I live to be a good mother and homemaker. I believe this is God's purpose for my life. Freelancing helps me achieve this. Working

#CoffeeShopCamping: The Frap Bar, Hotel Lorita

It's not the first time that I tried to work in coffee shops. My 'coffice' search started (and failed) in 2012. There weren't many coffee shops in Bulacan back then, and freelancing was unheard of. It was difficult to find a coffee shop that welcomed remote workers. Fast forward to 2016. Entrepreneur Philippines now features freelancing/freelancers in its articles regularly. Independent contractors come up on Facebook from time to time to share their stories and excitement for the entire world to read. We're no longer unheard of. We're now a community that sparks interest from people looking for jobs or looking into the option of starting a service-based business from home. As for me, that's total of 5 years in freelancing, and just very recently-- in Tuguegarao City. A lot has changed, but the question of whether I will be able to find a coffee shop that will welcome me in their place still stands. Prior to moving to Tuguegarao City, I found
