Recipe: Sinigang Na Buto-Buto ng Baka

A few days ago, we went to SM Marilao Hypermarket to buy chicken and cook Tinolang Manok. Everything had been planned for lunch, but when we saw the lot of Buto-Buto ng Baka on sale; we decided to give it a try and cook Sinigang  na Baka.

Sinigang is a favorite in our family (in many Filipino families, actually). My Nanay cooks the best Sinigang na Baboy and Baka. For Sinigang na Baka; she buys from her suki in Meycauayan Market, where she only pays for the beef strips and gets its fat free of charge. Her Sinigang is tasty and sinfully delicious; we're like in Tokyo Tokyo whenever it is our ulam (Unli rice!)

My Sinigang na Buto-Buto ng Baka is no match compared to her's, but it turned out very good, too. Buto-Buto is flavorful and is perfect match to my Sinigang's thick sour soup. I'm proud to have cooked it a couple times and to have succeeded each time (which is not always the case, believe me!). Below are the ingredients and recipe for Sinigang na Buto-Buto ng Baka that I'm happy to share to all of my Mommy readers especially to the young ones who are still learning to cook, just like me;

Ingredients:

Buto-Buto ng Baka
Garlic
Onion
Tomatoes
Gabi
Okra
Kangkong
Green Chili
Cooking oil
Fish Sauce
Pepper
Knorr Sinigang na may Gabi

1. Saute onion and garlic in cooking oil. Use tomatoes, if you have any. I would have used tomatoes in this recipe if I have not forgotten to buy them.

2. Add Buto-Buto ng Baka when onion is already translucent and garlic is lightly browned.

3. Add Knorr Sinigang na may Gabi so its flavor blends with that of the beef. Add pepper and fish sauce.

4. Add gabi and mix with everything else in the pot or pan.

5. Add water and let it simmer until meat is tender. Remove scum from surface when it boils.

6. Add vegetables when soup is thick and meat is tender. Okra goes first. Wait for it to cook, then add Kangkong and Green Chili. Simmer for a few more minutes. Don't overcook your vegetables!
